Since you clicked on this page, you are either wondering what this is all about or interested in becoming a foster parent. I will try and answer some of your questions. It is preferred if you live within an hour drive of the West Palm Beach area. A breeder is always trying to better the breed, to strive for “that perfect dog”. I breed for health, beauty and great poodle temperaments. From my litters, there may be one I would like to keep for my breeding program. Please understand, I grade my puppies at 9 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and so on. To be fair to the dog, he or she needs the love and attention from a home environment, the “one on one” quality time. I sometimes have older poodles available for this program, for those who do not want to raise a puppy. When I decide there is a poodle I would like to keep for my breeding program, he or she may be placed in the Foster Parent Program. If he/she makes it to the program, a contract will be entered into. These poodles will remain in the breeder's name and will be shown and finished as an AKC champion. The breeder is responsible for all the show expenses and the foster family is responsible for all the everyday living expenses. Please understand, these puppies are chosen at a young age and might not turn out to be show dogs as they mature. If that occurs, then you can either pay an adoption fee and buy the puppy outright, or return it so someone else can adopt him/her. If you adopt an older champion poodle, this probably would never happen. What do I need to know if I want to participate in the Foster Parent Program? The girls: First and most important, you must love them. In essence, they are your dog. They live with you and you are responsible for their well being. You are responsible for their food, grooming, heartworm & flea/tick meds, shots, Vet bills, training, socializing, etc. I am responsible for all her breeding expenses. I also offer discounted grooming and free boarding for all poodles on the program. Once a year, when she is in season, I will breed her. She will stay with me for about 1 week and approximately 3 weeks later I will take her to the Vet for an hour, to see if she is pregnant. If she is pregnant, she will go back home with you until about 5 days before she is due and then she will stay with me for about 1 month until the puppies are fully weaned. In essence, your girl will stay with us for about 5 to 6 weeks a year. When your girl has had her last litter, you will spay her and I will transfer over the AKC papers in your name. The Boys: The same as above. First and most important, you must love them. In essence, they are your dog. They live with you and you are responsible for their well being. You are responsible for their food, grooming, heartworm & flea/tick meds, shots, Vet bills, training, socializing, etc. I am responsible for all the breeding expenses. I also offer discounted grooming and free boarding for all poodles on the program. I will keep in touch with you and let you know when I need him for breeding, usually never more than a week at a time. Then he goes back home with you. When your boy has finished breeding, you will neuter him and I will transfer the AKC papers into your name.
